Event Information

Hells Gate Ride @ Bowen River Rodeo & Campdraft Grounds.

Fantastic opportunity to travel some amazing country, and ride new tracks surrounding the Bowen River and Hells Gate Nature Refuge. We have been given the opportunity from some lovely land holders to hold our ride in the area, please be respectful when travelling roads etc, these are working Stations, leave all gates as you find them, slowdown when passing stock and take your rubbish home.

Tracks will be undulating, gravel Station Roads with connecting bush tracks through paddocks and winding along creek beds and rocky outcrops. In places tracks will be rocky underfoot with intermittent sandy areas. There is some natural water on course with water troughs supplied where necessary.

Plenty of water at ride base for strapping, room for Camping/Containment yards, BYO fencing compliant to QERA Containment Rules (see below).

Nomination numbers are limited and subject to a first in basis.

Cell phone reception is patchy at best, Checkpoints and Committee will have handheld UHF Radios to communicate throughout the weekend, please feel free to bring a UHF should you wish,

If you are able to or have an extra person in camp that may assist over the weekend, please don’t be shy to put your hand up, the committee would be appreciative.

Meals available throughout the weekend at the Bowen River Hotel (Dinner 6-8pm) a short walk next door to the grounds. Please find attached menu of meals available, This is a small Local pub with plenty of history and character, Please if possible, nominate number of people utilising meals so that we can give the chiefs a heads up. There is eftpos available at the Hotel but it is advisable to bring cash in case of a technology meltdown.

  1. HORSE CONTAINMENT

The preferred method of horse containment are metal yards, substantially fixed to a solid object such as a horse float, truck or permanent fence or appropriately pegged into the ground. Alternatively, electric fencing is permitted, but shall as a minimum, have 2 strands of tape, preferably white and a minimum of 1cm wide, with the top tape to be 1.2 to 1.4 metres above the ground. The posts used should be of substantial material (for example, steel pickets) and installed so that the tape does not sag. The fence shall be energized at all times the horse is in the yard.

Only one horse is permitted per enclosure.

Ground tethering or the hobbling of horses is not permitted.
